December 26, 20225 Reasons to Have a Colonoscopy Baltimore
January 4, 2023Varicose veins can be painful and unsightly, but with several options for minimally invasive vein treatment in Maryland, nearly everyone can have treatment. There are several treatment options available for people who are tired of living with varicose veins. Here are the four main types.
Endovenous Laser Treatment
Endovenous Laser Treatment, EVLT, is one of the most preferred treatments for large varicose veins. Also known and Endovenous Laser Ablation, this treatment is often used to treat varicose veins for cosmetic reasons. Additionally, it can eliminate or reduce the painful symptoms associated with varicose veins. This includes inflammation, skin irritation, aches and pains.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is another type of minimally invasive vein treatment in Maryland. During this procedure, the provide injects a special solution into the vein. This solution causes the vein to swell, scar, and close off. The blood is forced to reroute to a nearby health vein. The varicose vein eventually collapses completely and is reabsorbed by the body, causing it to slowly fade away.
Microphlebectomy Treatment
Another minimally invasive vein treatment is microphlebectomy, AKA ambulatory phlebectomy. This treatment option removes damaged varicose veins through microscopic incisions. It is commonly used to treat larger varicose veins when sclerotherapy is ineffective.
Saphenous Vein Ablation
Also commonly known as Endovenous Ablation, this treatment uses radiofrequency to seal off the affected vein. The radiofrequency heats the vein walls and causes the vein to collapse, close, and seal shut. This procedure is just as effective as surgical treatments but less invasive.
At Home Treatment Options
If you are looking for a non-invasive treatment option for your varicose veins, there are a few things you can try at home to alleviate your discomfort. These include:
- Losing weight if you are overweight
- Avoid standing or sitting for long periods
- Don’t cross your legs while sitting
- Exercise and stretch to improve muscle strength and increase blood flow
- Avoid wearing clothing that is tight around the waist and upper thighs, this restricts natural blood flow
